Modeling Software
MMANA
In my efforts to find a better wire antenna, I have been modeling many different antennas. I wanted to find a free, easy to use program that worked well in a windows environment. I started with the excellent review of all the existing antenna modeling software by L. B. Cebik, W4RNL. From that review, I evaluated over half a dozen free and demo programs.

The one I chose to use is MMANA written by the very prolific JE3HHT, Makoto (Mako) Mori. With MMANA, I was able to get results quickly and easily. The other programs I evaluated felt like simple rewrites of old DOS, card based programs. MMANA was totally rewriten in C++ and feels much more like a typical graphical, windows based program. It was the only one that allowed me to start getting results immediately without spending hours reading manuals. It includes several dozen models for typical antennas, and there is an active Yahoo group to support the program.
